Understand and compare health insurance premiums

Compare health insurance premiums on the same basis: insurance year, location, model, deductible and annual out-of-pocket costs.

Start with the right insurance year

Compare premiums for the same insurance year. Use published information from the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH), the official Priminfo premium calculator and your insurer's premium notice. Premiums that have not been published are not confirmed rates.

This guide applies regardless of the calendar year. It does not show blanket savings figures or replace an individual quote.

Use the same details for every comparison

Record your location, year of birth, insurance model, deductible and accident cover. Check which people and period each premium applies to. A low monthly premium alone does not tell you whether the cover suits your situation.

  • Insurance model: Check the first point of contact and treatment rules for family-doctor, HMO and Telmed models.
  • Deductible: Consider the annual premium alongside potential treatment costs you would pay yourself. The deductible calculator helps you compare your own premiums and assumptions.
  • Supplementary insurance: Compare contractual supplementary benefits separately from basic insurance. Check acceptance conditions, limits and existing cover.

Before making a change

  1. Record the details from your current policy and premium notice.
  2. Compare annual costs, not just monthly premiums, and review model conditions.
  3. Clarify the actual offer and cancellation deadlines and conditions.
  4. Do not cancel existing supplementary insurance before receiving written acceptance from the new insurer.

Continue with the health insurance check. A check alone does not change or cancel a contract.
